Community Governance Review underway

It was really good to talk to so many people today at the Tonbridge Lions Community Fete.

Most people are still unaware that there is a Community Governance Review underway to decide whether or not Tonbridge gets a town council or that it is likely that Kent County Council and every borough council are likely to be replaced by new unitary councils including one for West Kent. A West Kent Unitary is likely to cover an area stretching from Edenbridge to Lenham and Walderslade to Hawkhurst. The current councils covering the three largest towns of Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone have started processes to establish town councils because they do not want to be underrepresented in such an enormous new council. Sevenoaks already has a town council of its own.

However you feel about establishing the first dedicated council for Tonbridge since 1976 please take part in the consultation which begins tomorrow and can be accessed at https://www.tmbc.gov.uk/cgr
